Pricing for T-shirt quilts

Please note the following fees (updated May 1, 2025)

I add standard charge of $20.00 to all quilts for thread, needles, and notions.

I add an upcharge for unusual fabrics (such as silk, nylon, spandex, polyester, or fleece) , for sections of baseball hats, and for badges, patches or ribbons.

I can incorporate mesh fabric, such as that from jerseys, by attaching it to a sold fabric beneath it.

I am also able to create photo transfers to incorporate in quilts, with the understanding that photos on fabric are not able to achieve the high resolution of digital photography on photo paper.

  • A throw (like one you might throw over your lap and feet while watching TV) - approx 50" X 65"- requires about 12-15 T-shirts, and would cost $275, plus about $100-$125 for supplies, which include fabric for the back and the coordinated binding, and the batting that goes in the middle of the layers.

  • A twin bed size (approx 54" X 84") or larger throw (for a taller person - approx same square inches), requires 16-20 T-shirts and would cost $325 plus about $120-$140 for supplies, which include fabric for the back and the coordinated binding, and the batting that goes in the middle of the layers.

  • A full bed size (approx 72" X 90") requires 20-28 T-shirts and would cost $400 plus about $130 to $150 for supplies., which include fabric for the back and the coordinated binding, and the batting that goes in the middle of the layers.

  • A queen bed size (approx 90" X 94") requires 28-32 T-shirts and would cost $500 plus about $140 - $160 for supplies which include fabric for the back and the coordinated binding, and the batting that goes in the middle of the layers.

Now, you can work your way backwards from the shirts themselves.  If you have, say, 31 shirts and want a twin bed size, I would have to see the shirts and determine how much of each one to use.  I did one quilt where all the person wanted was the front pocket logos (they were all polo shirts). There were about 30 of them, but each one ended up only being 5" by 5", so the quilt wasn't that large, and I actually charged her only $200.  So it really is a case by case basis.

Pricing for Keepsake Bears

Teddy Bears made of purchased fabrics (which match a baby quilt, for example) - $100

Bears which are made up of baby clothes - $120

Pricing for Heirloom/Treasured Quilt repair

I charge a $50 base fee plus $30 an hour plus supplies.  Such work involves matching vintage fabrics, removing damaged fabrics, hand sewing, and work on both the front and back of a quilt.
